Korres Lip Butter Glaze: Pictures, Swatches, and Reviews

Hello-llo! I just submitted my last task for this academic term (which also happens to be my second-to-the-last term, hopefully) and I’m almost out of my wits trying to kill boredom, so… I guess this is the perfect time to make a comeback, yes? 😆

…anyway, for the first of waaaaay-too-many-to-count pending posts (if I strictly go by my schedule I think I would probably have 2 to 3 posts a day starting tomorrow onwards), I’m going to be reviewing the Korres Lip Butter Glaze that Natalie of Natzi’s Stash recommended me. I remember having seen her including it in a post about makeup recommendations, I think? I’m not really sure, but it doesn’t really matter—I’m just so glad she convinced me to try them out!

If there’s one thing new I learned about makeup and cosmetics this year that I value the most, it’s that “skincare is SERIOUS business.” You add an addiction to lipstick as bad as mine to the mix, and your lip care regime becomes as important, if not even more. Yep, that’s how big of a deal the kind of lip balm I use is—which explains why I am hardly ever content with the lip balms I’ve tried. I’ve used medicated Blistex lip ointment, ordinary Blistex lip balm, Labello (which I think is exclusive to Middle Eastern countries?), Nivea, Lip Smackers, GAP, multiple variants of Soft Lips lip balm, and Burt’s Bees Beeswax lip balm (my favorite to date, except it doesn’t have sunscreen and its too waxy that it feels like a minty version of MAC Prep + Prime Lip)… but I still can’t say I’m a hundred percent satisfied, so I was really excited when I read good reviews about Korres.

Korres is a Greek skincare and cosmetic brand devoted to formulating effective products made with natural and organic ingredients. I’ve never had a stand on the issue between organic and chemical products, but if you’re pro-organic cosmetics, then this is a plus for you! Korres’ lip butter line apparently is a cult favorite—kind of like the ever-ubiquitous NARS Orgasm powder blush, except I hadn’t heard of it because I think it isn’t available in the Philippines (if you reside in the country too and are interested in getting Korres’ lip butter/lip butter glaze of your own, do leave a comment so I can let you know where to get them!).

The lip butter glaze is claimed to be a “lightweight, moisturizing, and creamy glaze that soothe and condition lips, impart vibrant and shiny color, and smell utterly delicious,” as per the Sephora website. Minus the sugarcoated description, basically it’s a lightweight flavored lip gloss that doubles as a moisturizing lip balm with good color payoff, all of which I found to be true except for the lightweight and good color payoff part, varying individually among the three flavors I got.

The Korres lip butter glaze line was some sort of lip gloss spin-off to the lip butter, packaged in squeezable tubes instead of jars (plus points for sanitary purposes!). I purchased 3 shades (or flavors since they’re mostly sheer when applied on the lips) each, but I’m reviewing the lip butter glaze first since I haven’t tested my jars of lip butter yet. I have this OC thing against using products before taking photos of them. 😆

I gave the packaging criteria a full 5.0 because compared to the original lip butter’s jar packaging, the lip butter glaze’s tube is obviously more portable and hygienic. Jars tend to be out-of-place in makeup kits due to their bulging in all the wrong places, but tubes most definitely do not. Of course, it goes without saying that dabbing your more-often-dirty-than-not fingers in a jar full of product is much less healthier for both the product and yourself, compared to using freshly squeezed out product from a tube.

The pigmentation criteria got the lowest of all. I wouldn’t have rated it lowly had they not advertised it as something that had vibrant color payoff because I really preferred my lip glosses to be sheer, but they did, so… yeah. The only lip glaze among the three that actually proved the said advertisement to be true was the Pomegranate variant, because the Crocus and Laurel lip glazes hardly left a tinge of color on my lips at all.

The application was pretty convenient with the slanted lipstick-like end of the lip glaze tube, but I shed off a point because I still had to use my fingers to make sure the product was applied properly to my lips.

I don’t have much complaint about the wear, too—it didn’t feel too greasy on the lips and the scent and flavor weren’t overpowering, but it’s not exactly advertised properly in terms of how it wore on people’s lips: it still felt a bit like a much less concentrated version of petroleum jelly on my lips, something I actually expected from a product called “lip butter glaze,” but they just had to falsely advertise it as “lightweight,” didn’t they?

Lastly, the longevity of the product is also rather decent for a lip gloss. I have used it as both a base and a top coat on two separate instances: as a base, it lasted for around 4 hours or a little more; as a top coat, it lasted for around 3 hours. Not bad, in my opinion.

The following are photos of Korres Lip Butter Glaze swatches on skin, but don’t be fooled about the color payoff—they don’t look that opaque on lips at all, except for the Pomegranate lip butter glaze. UPDATE (22/12/2013): Photos of the swatches I did on my lips come right after!

Random tip, BTW: if you have an extremely matte lipstick that you absolutely love but find troublesome to wear, use Korres Lip Butter Glaze under it. It turns the lipstick into some sort of a cremesheen finish (without altering its shade)..! The only downside to it is it cuts down the wear time of the lipstick, but I think it’s quite normal for someone to retouch their makeup after 4 hours. After just an hour is fine if you’re plagued with skin as oily as mine. 😆

All in all, even though it’s a bit on the pricy side for a lip gloss and balm in one, I think the Korres Lip Butter Glaze is worth trying especially if you’re a lipstick addict like I am! I love wearing it at night before sleeping because I’m 100% sure it would make me wake up with unbelievably soft and moisturized lips, plus its flavor and scent are just of the right strength. It’s also perfect for that lazy day you don’t feel like putting too much color on yet you just can’t leave your lips completely bare and uncared for. Can’t wait to compare it to the original Korres Lip Butter!
